Proudly presenting our panel for Café Kyiv: »Learning from Eastern Europe: dissidents as pioneers of a resilient democracy«
What are the core insights from Central Eastern European dissident movements?“ at Café Kyjiw in Berlin. The discussion will focus on the lessons we can draw from the mutual influence for challenges we face today. How can we make use of the historical experiences of dissidents such as the Ukrainian thinker Vasil Stus? How to bring together his experience with Western European practices of resistance? And how to strengthen shared practices of solidarity in todays embattled democracies all over Europe?

- Margarita Yegorchenko, Literary critic, Co-director of the Vasyl Stus Centre in Kyiv,
- Wolfgang Templin, Human rights activist in the GDR, public intellectual focusing on Ukraine, Poland and the former GDR,
- Andreas Hollstein, Polonia representative for the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia; former mayor,
Moderation: Felix Ackermann, professor of public history at Fernuniversity Hagen
The panel was set up by Katja Schlenker on behalf of Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus - Deutsch-osteuropäisches Forum in Düsseldorf, where the Vasyl Stus exhibition is on display until 27 March.
